Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge – Dawsonville, GA
RESERVATIONS: 706.344.1500
Amicalola Falls is a magnificent 729-foot waterfall that’s the third-highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River.
Explore our trails and come face-to-face with the stone archway that marks the unofficial start of the Appalachian Trail, and the cascading waterfall for which the park is named!
Please meet in front of the visitor center 5 minutes before the scheduled time. The hike begins at the famous stone archway that marks the unofficial start of the Appalachian Trail. Listen to the creek whisper and bubble as you hike past blooming wildflowers and impressive geology to the Reflection Pool. Watch as anglers fish in our pond with cascading waterfalls and the distant Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop. Continue up the trail as the creek turns from a whisper to a rumble, meet plants that defy death, and feel the cool mist on your face as you stand before the thundering Amicalola Falls, the tallest waterfall in Georgia. The hike then turns back to end at the Visitor’s Center.
Please note, this hike is considered moderate to strenuous due to trip hazards, steep inclines, and an optional but recommended 175 stairs. No strollers are permitted and children must walk or be carried. Expect the activity to take approximately 1.5 hours.
Temperatures can be hot and muggy during the summer months. Please dress appropriately for the expected weather conditions and consider bringing a bottle of water and a snack.
We understand that plans can change when on vacation and that weather is not always ideal for outdoor activities. Because of this, we offer the option of canceling reservations for a full refund up to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled activity by following the instructions in the confirmation email. We are unable to offer refunds for late arrivals or cancellations after the 24-hour window.
