Experience the nature and wonders of Amicalola Falls State Park
Spending time in Amicalola Falls State Park here in the North Georgia Mountains provides an opportunity to really appreciate the natural wonders of the surrounding area.
Here are a few suggestions for your next getaway:
Hike the Falls. Amicalola Falls is one of the tallest cascading waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. As spring rains move through the North Georgia Mountains the torrent of water becomes absolutely spectacular.
Find the Moonshine Truck. If anyone knows exactly how this 1920’s model moonshine truck ended up embedded in the base of a tree along one of our trails, no one is speaking. Hike to the site and let your own imagination paint a picture for you.
Go rugged on the Approach Trail. If you’re looking for a hiking challenge, we invite you to take a hike on the Approach Trail leading from the Visitor Center to the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail at the base of Springer Mountain. Spanning 8 miles, this trail includes rugged terrain, steep inclines and the opportunity to spot some of the North Georgia Mountains’ most spectacular wildlife.
Take in a sunset at the lodge. There’s no better place to be when the sun starts to sink behind the mountains than out on the deck, wine glass in hand. Grab a spot along the glass railing of the upper deck or our lower veranda or find a spot near the fire pit next to the lower veranda. (The lower veranda and fire pit area will close when a private event is being held in our conference area.) Or upgrade your stay to a deluxe room to get the best private view from your own window. Once you find the perfect spot, breathe in the fresh mountain air and sit back to watch as the sun paints the sky before disappearing below the mountainous horizon.

We’re not your average North Georgia Hotel
When thinking of Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge, “Dawsonville Hotel” isn’t an accurate description. It’s more of a North Georgia Resort as we provide a number of options to stay in the park – overnight or even for a number of days.
Comfortable accommodations await at the Lodge. Our North Georgia Mountain Lodge provides stylish rooms with spectacular views. Sitting at the top of a mountain, guests can enjoy modern amenities, including central air, satellite TV and Wi-Fi as well as complimentary coffee, tea and water, while taking in the natural beauty of the North Georgia Mountains. With an onsite restaurant located within the lodge serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, the hotel experience guests receive is truly accommodating.
Rent a rustic cabin in the woods. Among some of the finest in Georgia, 14 cabins feature wood floors, open concept living rooms and full kitchens to prepare family style meals. They come well-equipped with heating and air conditioning, decks, fireplaces and satellite TV.
Whether you’re planning a couple’s weekend or a family gathering, the 1, 2, or 3-bedroom arrangements give guests options to choose from. The location of the cabins, tucked in the wooded areas both below and above the falls, leaves you feeling isolated in nature while you’re actually just a short drive from the lodge and Visitor Center.
Sleep under the stars in our State Park campground. If you’re looking to relax in the natural confines of a wooded campground, explore the Dawsonville, GA area or hike miles of mountain trails, the campground at Amicalola Falls State Park is a great option.
Located at the top of a 25% incline, you will find 24 well-maintained campsites accommodating both RV and tent camping with easy pull-in or back-in, water, power, grill and fire ring. A recently renovated and updated comfort station with laundry facilities and ADA accessible restrooms and showers is located within the campground. Paved pathways make navigating the campground a breeze. We do recommend new campers review the FAQ’s before making their reservation.
Experience onsite dining. The Maple Restaurant located just off the main floor lobby offers Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner seven days a week. Stop in for lunch while enjoy the park for a day or take advantage of our full dining services while staying at the lodge or in one of our cabins. The Mountain View Bar is located at the far side of the restaurant and offers locally sourced liquors and beers for a truly authentic North Georgia Mountain Resort experience.
