If you find yourself dreading the same old humdrum summer, break out of the ordinary and jump into a Summer of Adventure at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge.
Northwest of Dawsonville, Ga., Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge is a memorable outdoor experience for everyone in the family, no matter their age or ability. Besides being home to the tallest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, this Georgia mountain resort has diverse accommodations and a number of packages and specials to fuel your group’s adventurous side.
No matter what age groups you need to indulge, Amicalola Falls State Park has a host of activities where everyone can be together. Guided hikes are led by our knowledgeable park staff who engage with your group, providing facts and interesting tidbits about our park’s marquee attraction – the breathtaking Amicalola Falls – as well as the amazing flora, fauna, and history of Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest. Viewing the most magnificent waterfall in Georgia should be part of any mountain getaway.
If striking out on your own sounds like something your group would enjoy, consider the GPS scavenger hunt. This high-tech expedition teaches exploration, navigation, and will ultimately lead to a hidden surprise if you follow the correct path with help from the GPS coordinates. Once your woodland activities are completed, check out the Birds of Prey show, which occurs every Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Lodge lobby. Get an up close and personal view of various species of owls, hawks, and falcons. Learn the special qualities of these amazing hunters from our expert handlers. The show is free to park guests.
If you want to ramp up the adventure just a little bit, more family-friendly activities are available on site. With participant minimums of 8 years old and 50 pounds, zip lining in Georgia on the Screaming Eagle Aerial Adventure Tour is an exhilarating experience for kids and adults alike. Offered through American Adventure Park Systems, enthusiastic zippers safely fly through the forest canopy and get a birds-eye view of the park grounds.
Avid hikers should be aware of a great Georgia State Parks program known as the Canyon Climbers Club. Amicalola Falls State Park is one of four sites across Georgia where hikers can trek designated paths to earn credit toward becoming a Canyon Climbers Club member. Once all four journeys are finished and verified, registered hikers will receive a certificate of completion from Georgia State Parks. Other state parks in the Canyon Climbers Club program include Tallulah Gorge, Cloudland Canyon and Providence Canyon.
Adding to the distinctive features of Amicalola Falls State Park is the 3-D Archery program available to park guests. Using compound bows and target arrows provided by the park, users receive instruction on technique, distance, and accuracy which is then put to the test on our woodland course. Each station of animal-shaped targets also contains obstacles like shrubs, trees, and inclines, making your archery experience even more realistic.
Discover the lost skills of wilderness survival through Amicalola Survivalist Camp. Through the guidance of our survival instructors, learn how to read terrain, start a fire using minimal materials, treat water for consumption, and stay calm during crucial situations. This information could save your life if you ever need to survive in the forest.
What better way to capture your Amicalola family adventure than on a GoPro? You and your crew can rent a GoPro for all of your park adventure. You’ll capture priceless footage whether the camera is mounted on a helmet, vest, bike, or canine companion. No matter what Georgia vacation experience you choose at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge, you’ll have family memories to share and cherish for a lifetime.
