Want to take your vacation from ordinary to extraordinary? Navigate deep into the wondrous 829-acre Amicalola Falls State Park to the Adventure Lodge, a beacon of comfort and adventure atop a mountain with spectacular views of the surrounding North Georgia landscape. Check in, drop your bags off in the room and fill up in our onsite restaurant where you can enjoy the splendor of mountains from the towering panoramic windows that make you feel as though you are dining in the clouds.
With full bellies, it’s time to explore Amicalola Falls State Park. Start with a guided hike to the crown jewel of the park, Georgia’s treasured Amicalola Falls. This isn’t a little rapid with big name. Amicalola is 729 feet of vertically cascading water, making it the third highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River. Feel the mist and hear the thundering rush of the water as it falls to the base of the mountain.
Oh no, but it doesn’t stop there. Settle down to sleep with the family in the most comfortable beds in the state so you are well rested for the adventures that await in the state park and the surrounding Chattahoochee National Forest tomorrow . When you wake, take advantage of the opportunity of a lifetime, zip lining through the canopy of some of the most biodiverse and beautiful forests in the country. Your adrenaline will be pumping as you experience flight zipping through the trees.
Finish the course and meet the birds you were just imitating at the Birds of Prey presentation. Meet owls, hawks and other raptors and learn about their behavior, habitat and means of survival. Or, if birds aren’t your thing, check out the Ssnakes Alive! presentation and learn why they shed their skin and how they hunt.
In the afternoon, test your aim at the 3-D Archery range where you can attempt to hit three-dimensional targets. Or, if you want to see who in the family is the best with an axe, try the Tomahawk Challenge. Learn how to throw a hatchet and stick it in the target every time. Keep score and earn bragging rights for the rest of the trip
Enjoy another fine meal and great night’s sleep because you will need all your energy to complete the GPS scavenger hunt the next day. Channel your inner explorer and use the provided GPS device to track down different items in the park, like a real pioneer, but with modern technology of course.
Day four you may need a break, so relax in the shade at the reflection pond located at the bottom of the waterfalls or take a hike at your own pace on one of the 10 trails through the immensely beautiful state park. For a more serious hike, take the 8-mile Approach Trail to the southernmost terminus of the Appalachian Trail at Springer Mountain.
The nearby towns of Dawsonville or Dahlonega offer a variety of restaurants and shopping experiences. Explore of one the nearby wineries and enjoy the award-winning flavors of North Georgia Wine Country, all just a short drive from the lodge.
Back at the lodge, the dark, unlit skies and the location of the lodge at the top of the mountain will allow you to see stars like you’ve never seen before. Enjoy the warmth of our firepit as you relax with the family. It’s a good thing the beds are so comfortable and the food is so good, because with so much to do, the family will have a big appetite and be ready for some shut-eye when the day is done.
